This was just a quick painting I did in the last couple weeks of school with some gouache and watercolor paint. It was my first time working with gouache and watercolor just hates me so this came out messier that I had wished.
Now, what is this about? I had been hoping to do a series for my concentration that would feature folk art or a simplified style. It was supposed to be of kids learning about their cultures and spreading the word. In this one you see a little latino girl telling her big brother what she learned in school that day about her heritage (I feel sad that the lines came out so ugly, but it was also my first time with one of those inking pens that has an inkwell).
I was going to use different styles that would be reminiscent of the folk art of each nationality illustrated, but sadly, that was quite too ambitious with the pace I work at traditionally (snail slow, I'll tell you).
So I went with my dogs and human caricatures instead, but I still got a 5 on my scores for the AP Studio Art Portfolio (which was mostly made up of my original digital work) so YAY!
I might try and rework this series again some time. I had a couple that I wanted to complete but never did.
